Dissatisfied With Your Website And It's Traffic?

There are a lot of small business owners that we talk to that are not happy with the results of the website that they paid a web site design company to build for them, or the traffic they paid an internet marketer to generate. They complain that the site is plain or is hard to update or that is has received little traffic or generated the few sales.

The blame lies with the small business as much as the web site design company. When small businesses hire web site companies they tell the designers basically what they want but leave most of the decision up to the designer. This is a mistake. Building a website is very similar to building a house. When building a house you pick out the house plan not the builder. You decide the colors of the walls, the type of siding, color of the shingles, what carpet, which cabinets, and so on. But with a website people leave this all up to the designer.

If you are going to have a website built then you need to take responsibility for a lot of the design and most of the content. The first thing to do is develop a set of goals for your website. Is it going to be used to generate new business or a place to direct existing customers? This will determine what kind of website is best for your needs.

Then you need to develop a list of functionality and information that you want the website to contain. Also, note what information will need updating and which is static and will never change. It is important to have an easy way to change information that is changed often. There are to many outdated websites on the internet already.

Next scout other websites on the internet until you find one that has the look you like or some functionality that would be good for your site to have. Or several that you like parts of. Being able to show a website designer an example of what you have in mind makes it very easy for them to meet your needs.

This is the easy part so far. You have enough info to give your designer a list of functionality and some example websites that look like what you have in mind. Now you have to decide what color schemes you want, what kind of font. The colors and font of a website set its tone. Is it professional or casual? Is it serious or fun? These might seem like trivial details but they matter. No matter how good the designer you need to direct them. You don’t need the exact font, but tell them weather you want a professional or casual font; Soothing or bright colors. All of this extra work will help you be more satisfied with the end product.

Next comes traffic. This is usually the job of an internet marketer but most web companies offer both services. We often hear complaints by people who launch an internet business and then do not receive the traffic they expect.

First of all, submitting your website to the hundreds of search engines will not produce a lot of traffic. It is a small part of an overall internet marketing campaign. Also, this is a service that is provided free by most web hosts and you should not be spending money on it. This merely gets your website listed in the various search engines. To receive traffic you need to gain enough strength so that when a searcher searches on a keyword relevant to you that your website shows up. This takes time and effort and will not be achieve by simply submitting your website.

A lot of websites are used as a tool for its organization to spread information or as a brochure for a small business to direct its customers. These kind of sites are not looking to generate traffic and do not need an internet marketing strategy. But if you are running an ecommerce site or a website to generate sales leads for your business then you need an internet marketing plan.

This plan will consist of several parts a search engine strategy for both organic listings and paid listings, a grassroots plan to generate traffic by writing articles, posting in forums, and in general becoming an online expert for you niche. And an online advertising plan for banner ads.

Long term, establishing yourself as the online expert in a field and developing a strong search engine ranking for the keywords relevant to your business is very important. This will allow you to generate traffic without spending advertising dollars. Early you will need to advertise to generate visitors and revenue but over time your advertising dollars should decrease. This should be the long term objective of all internet businesses.

To achieve this you will need a comprehensive plan, and the discipline to stick with it when no one is visiting your website. It is hard to outsource some of an internet marketing campaign to an Internet marketing company because you are the expert. It is hard for an internet marketing company to produce your level of expertise in your business. Internet marketing companies are excellent for managing ad campaigns, creating banner graphics, and teaching you search engine optimization and grassroots marketing. In search engine optimization and grassroots internet marketing a lot of the work is producing content(articles, guides, tutorials, etc.) in your niche and becoming known at expert sites in your area and forum boards that you are an expert in this niche and a place to go. You cannot outsource this expertise. You can hire someone to teach you how to do it but you need to do it.

To get satisfaction out of your website and have it generate the traffic and new business that you want, you need to take ownership and be involved in the design, content, and internet marketing. You can have a web company build the site but you need to drive the design and functionality. You can also have an internet marketing company setup a marketing plan and teach you the basics of search engine optimization, but you need to become the online expert in your niche and produce as much quality content for that niche as you can.

Improve Your Online Content With An Easy To Follow Structure

 Beginning, Middle, End

Writing quality online content for your websites can be hard and somehow it often seems impossible to make it sound right.
But don't despair!  There is a simple structure you can follow to make your copy read better and easier for your visitors.

The Big Three:

In essence, giving your online copy a simple structure can set you on your way to content heaven.  This is easy to use and provides great results for minimal fuss.

  1. Introduction
  2. Main Content
  3. Conclusion
And that's it!  Your entire copy will have a beginning, middle and end.  This will help your content appear to be more professional without having an amateur feel to it - which can turn visitors off.

Is that all there is to writing?

Unfortunately, no.  Writing is a craft that requires multiple skills to achieve professional results.  It can take writers years to learn how to write to a high standard,  and there are no shortcuts.  However, this simple structure ensures you will be on the right track.

What should I write about?

Basically, anything you feel your customers/readers would be interested to read related to your business or area of expertise.  Ideas are hard to come by and require hard work to discover the ideas that will be shareable and original.

And that's the key.  Make your online content unique and original.  After all, would you want to read about what you have read a thousand times before?  Probably not.  The same is for your readers.  Keep things topical, current and intriguing.

Whatever you choose to write about, keeping it within the boundaries of a structure will ensure you keep your writing tight, progressive and it will have a purpose.

The big three is a proven method to quickly improve your content with minimal effort.

Tips To Optimize Your Blog For Better SEO

Search Engine Optimization uses a combination of techniques, tools, and technical know-how to get results.  Search engine optimization (SEO) is a set of methodologies aimed at improving the visibility of a website in search engine listing. Search Engine Optimization  (SEO) involves the careful optimization of corporate web sites to effectively increase their visibility in the major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Alta-Vista,and many others. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user. The higher a Web site ranks in the results of a search, the greater the chance that that site will be visited by a user.

Optimize the below three for better SEO:
  • Meta Tags
  • Navigational  links
  • Rich Content

Meta Tags:

Meta Tags are very important for your website's visibility. Many search engines read them from your site when you submit it to them .Major meta tags that you can use:

Meta Title,
The only resource type that is currently in use is "document" This is the only tag that you need to put in for indexing purposes.

Meta Description,
Depending on the search engine, this will be displayed along with the title of your page in an index. "content" could be a word, sentence or even paragraph to describe your page. Keep this reasonably short, concise and to the point.

Meta Keyword,
It is important to choose the best keyword to get on top of google. You can check our article on "Blogging Tools For Keyword Research"  for some best online tool to get the top keywords for your articles.

Navigational  links:

At the right or at the bottom, but not on the left, of the page.  When the search engines "read" your site, they read from the top left to the bottom right.  Search engines place an emphasis on the first 100 words or text on the site.  You do not want these words to be navigational links or Javascript.  Ideally, you want to have your heading tags with your keywords in the beginning of your page.  This being said, placing your links/JavaScript on the right or bottom of your page ensures the search engine spiders get to the text first, giving more weight to what's important on your page.

Rich Content:

The more content you have on your site the more likely someone is to find what they're looking for when they get there. Keep your site very content rich. Have a lot of pages.Update the site even twice a day if you have the time. Updating your site does not mean that you copy paste content from other sites. That will only push your rankings further down. Don't have any duplicate content. At the same time ,dont spam multiple content across the same website. When a search engine views or reviews a website, which they do at least every few months, it looks for specific characteristics found in the content of website landing pages.

The Three Best Website Traffic Sources

Not a day goes by that any serious website owner doesn't wonder how to get more traffic to their site.

This intense desire to generate more clicks makes virtually any online entrepreneur easy prey to many of the traffic schemes and scams that pervade the Internet like conmen on a carnival midway.

Promises of fast traffic and big bucks often separate even the most savvy business person from their money because they want to believe the promises made by these traffic hucksters.

However, rather than thinking "complicated equals better" in the traffic game, the best website traffic sources rate extremely easy to separate from the useless garbage traffic.
Fact: "Good Traffic" equals "Targeted Traffic!
That means the visitors come as a result of desire to find out more on a specific, niche topic, not as a result of "exit" traffic or membership in a "safe" list where members simply pitch each other in an incestuous spam fest.

Good traffic comes from people clicking links on topics targeted to their interests and getting directed to a website containing information they want and expect as a result of clicking the link.

Bottom line, when you get right down to it, the best, most dependable sources of targeted traffic come from links that people click.

So, next time you're considering spending money on a traffic source, understand that unless it involves a targeted link that a targeted visitor can click to get to your website, think twice before opening up your wallet.

To my knowledge, only three ways exist to get a link to your site:
  • Buy it
  • Voodoo it
  • Grow it

** Buy Links**

Buying links actually rates the fastest way to get traffic to your website.

You simply sign up for Google AdWords at Google.com or you open an account with Overture.com.

You then run ads with a link on those sites and any time someone clicks the link, you pay for the click through a relatively straightforward bidding process based on the popularity of the keyword.

You can also buy links in ezines, newsletters, and on other people's website either on a per-click basis, for a period of time (a week or month), or in exchange for paying them a commission if a sale gets made as a result of a click on the link.

** Linking "VoodDoo" **

Linking "voodoo" refers to attempting to manipulate the search engines into displaying links to your website.

You can find a large number of automated software programs online at any given time that will claim to help you get more search engine traffic.

Depending on the intensity of competition in a specific market and the fact that search engines change their rules frequently, pursuing search engine links this way can quickly turn into the online equivalent of Alice chasing the rabbit down the hole.

** Grow Links **

I personally prefer this method to get links to my websites: growing them.

The best type of link to get involves one person telling another person, either explicitly or implicitly, they should click the link and visit the site at the other end.

One way to do this is simply to exchange links with another site which targets the same audience as your site.

You can manage this process manually or use one of the many software packages that will mange the process for you.

A search on Google for "reciprocal link manager software" yields a good start.

The easiest way to grow a link is through using articles other people post on their websites which link back to your website.

The reason articles work so well for "growing" links involves the numerous ways in which articles get distributed online, each of which can create dozens, hundreds, even thousands of different links back to your website by publishing a single article.

In fact, the following represent only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the places you can grow links by publishing articles online.

Blogs:
Your articles can not only appear on your own blog, but get posted by others on their blogs with surprising ease.

The links in these articles can point directly back to your website.

Article Directories:
Submit your articles on the Article Directories.

They not only provide an easy way to display your articles to allow others to pick them up for posting on their websites, but also in and of themselves attract readers searching for content.

OPS (Other People's Sites):
Popular websites like WebProNews.com attract repeat visitors by offering targeted content to their readers.

Since they can't produce all the content themselves, they publish articles created by others. Links from these sites can bring a steady stream of targeted visitors by giving you targeted exposure.

Ezines:
By getting your articles published in other people's ezines, you can get a link on the most valuable real estate online, a targeted prospect's email "inbox."

Many ezine publishers run articles written by others to their targeted readers, and your link in the resource box can bring you a veritable avalanche of targeted site visitors when hundreds, even thousands of people receive your article at the same time.

**Final Thoughts**

Whether you choose to buy them, "voodoo" them, or grow them, getting targeted links to your site posted on the Internet represents the absolute best way to get steady traffic to your site.

Though not as fast as buying them or as exciting as trying to manipulate the search engines, growing links with articles gives you a long-term, dependable presence online.

Tips To Avoid "Bad" Manners While Blogging

Tips To Avoid "Bad" Manners While Blogging

Blogging, the hottest trend in online publishing right now, is currently spreading like wildfire across the Internet.

A cross between an online journal and a bulletin board, everyone from rock starts, politicians, business leaders and your average "Joe" or "Jane" can instantly become a center of influence online using blogs.

But, as with any social interaction, certain rules apply (my grandma calls them manners) in order to be viewed as behaving "properly".

One of the things that gives blogging such strong appeal as an online publishing method revolves around "comments".

Blogs that allow "comments" enable readers to respond and elaborate on the information posted by the blog owner.

These comments and the free exchange of information, opinions, links, and new ideas creates the dynamic and growing content that makes blogging such a popular online activity for both publishers and readers.

However, rules and unwritten customs about the proper use of "comments" on a specific blog are also where most of the problems and controversy will arise.

Since a successful blog eventually becomes a community of people (albeit in cyberspace), proper social behavior is critical to be an effective and accepted member of the community.

Keep these basic rules in mind when approaching a new blog that allows commenting by readers so you won't find yourself on the wrong end of a scolding by people who operate with a different set of rules than you.

As with any social circle, violating the group's rules and customs will instantly cause a negative backlash.

Keep It Relevant:

Stay on topic with the post you're commenting about in a blog.

Nothing will earn you the wrath and disdain of your fellow posters and the blog owner faster than posting an off-topic comment.

Watch What Others Do:

Different blogs operate under different rules. What rates acceptable in one blog would earn you a verbal thrashing in another.

Before posting (especially if you have not posted to a specific blog before), look to see the types and quality of posts others make regularly.

  • Are they long or short?
  • Do they contain a link to the person's website?
  • Is there a "signature" under their name?

Be Polite:

It's fine to disagree with people when making a comment, whether it's the blog's author or a comment made by another reader.

It is not, however, acceptable to launch a personal attack on anyone or make nasty comments in someone else's blog.

If you feel the need to do so, do it in your own blog.

It's the same principle of you can say whatever you want in your own house, but when you're in someone else's house, you act right (and better than you do at home).

You Can't Respond To Everyone:

If you operate a blog and someone asks a question, try to respond, but both sides should understand that you can't respond 100% of the time.

We all get busy and a blog, unless it maintains a paid membership, is often supported as a labor of love.

Optimizing your Blog for Mobile Users: Mobile Plugin Vs. Web Platform

Optimizing your Blog for Mobile Users: Mobile Plugin Vs. Web Platform

With the exponential proliferation of smart phones comes the growing need for standard websites and blogs to go mobile. Once, a traditional website would have sufficed as the majority of the Internet users operated a desktop computer in order to acquire information and purchase goods and services. This, however, is no longer the case. In fact, by neglecting to optimize your site for mobile users, you are invariably benefitting your competitors by absenting yourself from the mobile Internet world.

The most obvious solution to such a problem is to create a mobile version of your blog that mirrors your traditional website. There is, however, an important choice to be made: mobile plugin or web platform. Below is a list of advantages that come with both options. The choice you then make should be informed by the needs and priorities of your particular business; there is no one right answer.

Mobile Plugin:

Opting for a mobile plugin means that your traditional website will be optimised for the small screen automatically. There are several advantages to this method:
  • A plugin is easy to install and does not incur any additional costs;
  • It is easy to use as it does not require the modification of any aspect of your original site; the plugin will take care of everything automatically;
  • Finally, using a plugin will save you a great deal of time as it sidesteps the need to create an entirely new website from the ground upwards.

Web Platform:

Opting for a web platform entails building a replica of your traditional blog from square one. Again, there are several advantages that come with going for this method:
  • Building a mobile site from scratch allows you completely free reign when it comes to customizing the site;
  • Though smart phones are currently dominant, using a web platform will allow standard phone users to have access to your mobile site too, thus widening your potential audience;
  • You will be able to monitor statistics regarding site usage and traffic;
  • Finally, you will be able to maintain the branding elements that characterise your traditional site in order to promote familiarity with your brand.

There is no right answer when it comes to deciding between a mobile plugin and web platform, though the general rule is as follows: if you simply require that mobile visitors can access and read your blog easily from their smartphone, a plugin should suffice. If, on the other hand, your website is sales-oriented or requires the publication of media-rich content and wishes to maintain complete control over the layout, branding elements and content, then you should opt to create a new mobile website by means of a web platform. Check out this mobile free classifieds website to get an idea of how an efficiently optimized site should look like.

Does Bing Says "Your Feed Was Empty" On Submitting Your Blogger Blog's Sitemap?

Does Bing Says "Your Feed Was Empty" On Submitting Your Blogger Blog's Sitemap?

Hi friends in this post i would like to share with you that How i overcome this problem from bing.

I too had this problem from Bing saying that "YOUR FEED WAS EMPTY" when i submitted this blogger blog's sitemap in different formats. But Google don't have this problem. This problem is mainly due to the reason that bing was unable to locate the sitemap in your blog.

I tried to submit sitemap in different formats as shown below:

  • http://dailytipsndtricks.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false
  • http://dailytipsndtricks.blogspot.com/atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=500

But the result was "YOUR FEED WAS EMPTY". Then i tried sitemap.xml as suffix to my site url and this got my problem to get solved. I cannot guarantee you that this will solve your problem from bing but i got this problem solved by this way.

NOTE: This is only for blogger blogs and i don't know about others.

Don't forget to Comment if this works for you too :)
